To Volunteer

Give Back to the Community! Volunteer for CPAs for the Public Interest (CPAsPI) to assist not-for-profit organizations and community service projects in need of professional guidance. CPAsPI promotes community service opportunities available to members throughout the state, and links the opportunities to the appropriate volunteer professional. Volunteering with any of the community service projects can contribute to the development of a practice, help expand professional skills and areas of expertise, and provide personal satisfaction.

CPA Board Connection
CPA Board Connection help CPAs and financial professionals identify and connect with opportunities to serve on the boards of Illinois charitable organizations. CPA on Board also provides resources and training to help financial professionals understand and exercise their financial management and governance responsibilities as not-for-profit board members.

ACCOUNTING CONSULTATION PROGRAMS
CPAs for the Public Interest assists small not-for-profit charitable organizations to build their capacity through improved fiscal management practices. Volunteers provide consultations of up to three-hours, at no charge to organizations that qualify. You can set your own schedule of taking on a consultation(s). This program is critically important for many smaller and start-up organizations that can't afford to pay for these services. Volunteers should have some background and/or knowledge of not-for-profit accounting.

  • Helping taxpayers interpret letters they have received from the IRS regarding their tax returns.

  • Helping those who do not have a social security number file a tax return by obtaining an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

  • Assisting taxpayers who have received an examination (audit) notice or who are involved with the Appeals Division of the IRS. Most cases are settled, but if necessary, the clinic will represent the taxpayer in the U.S. Tax Court.
